About our company

A family-run shop with big-company reliability.

We started Oakline in 2004 with two saws, a borrowed truck, and a simple promise: treat every home like our own. Today we're a 28-person team of carpenters, finishers, and project managers — but that promise hasn't changed.

What has changed is everything around that promise. We now run an 8,000 sq ft shop with CNC precision alongside hand-cut joinery, a dedicated finishing booth for glass-smooth results, and a project office that sends you photo updates every single day. Most of our work — nearly three quarters — comes from repeat clients and their referrals, which we take as the highest compliment a builder can earn.

Sustainability is not a marketing line for us. We source FSC-certified lumber as standard, mill offcuts into blocking and shims instead of landfilling them, and spray low-VOC finishes that keep your indoor air safe for kids, pets, and grandparents alike.

Why Oakline

Shop-built quality you can feel in every joint.

Most contractors outsource. We mill, build, and finish in our 8,000 sq ft Portland shop, so tolerances stay tight and schedules stay honest. You get photos at every stage — and a final walkthrough with the actual carpenter who built it.

That control matters more than it sounds. When the same hands that draw your cabinet also cut, assemble, and install it, mistakes drop to near zero and the details — grain-matched panels, whisper-quiet drawers, scribed edges against wavy plaster — end up better than the rendering. It is slower in the best possible way, and it is why our punch lists are famously short.

Recent projects

Real homes. Real businesses. Recent work.

Every project below was designed, built, and finished by our own in-house team — no subcontracted surprises. We document each job from first measurement to final walkthrough, so you always know exactly what is happening, what it costs, and when it will be done. Browse six recent favorites, each with the full story: the challenge, the materials, the timeline, and what the client says today.

Simple & transparent

From first call to final polish in 4 steps

Renovations feel stressful when communication breaks down. Our process is deliberately boring: fixed prices, written schedules, and a human being who answers the phone. Here is exactly what happens after you contact us — no mystery, no jargon, no pressure.

  1. 01

    Walkthrough & fixed quote

We visit, measure, and listen first — then send an itemized fixed price within 48 hours. Every line is explained in plain English, with allowances clearly marked. No vague estimates, no surprise change orders later.

  2. 02

    Design & materials

Shop drawings, wood samples, and finish swatches come to your home for approval before we cut a single board. We confirm lead times in writing and lock your slot in the shop calendar.

  3. 03

    Build & daily updates

Tidy, shoe-cover crews with texted photo updates every evening and a live schedule you can check anytime. Floors protected, dust extracted, and a project manager on call — not a voicemail maze.

  4. 04

    Walkthrough & warranty

Joint punch-list with blue tape, professional deep clean, and a written 5-year craftsmanship warranty. Most punch items are resolved within 48 hours — and we're a phone call away for years after.

Not sure where to start? Bring us photos — we'll guide you.

Free 20-minute phone consult with a real carpenter, not a salesperson. We'll tell you what your project should cost, what to watch out for, and whether we're the right fit — honest advice even if you hire someone else.

“Oakline rebuilt our 1920s kitchen without losing its soul. The white oak cabinets are flawless, the crew was spotless, and they finished two days early.”

Get in touch

Tell us about your project — we reply within one business day.

The fastest way to start is the form on the right: tell us the room, the rough size, your timeline, and your budget range, and we'll reply with next steps and a site-visit slot. Prefer to talk? Call or text during shop hours — a real person picks up. Every inquiry gets a written response, never an automated maze.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes — Oregon CCB #204518, $2M general liability, and workers’ comp for every crew member. Certificates of insurance are sent automatically with every quote, and additionally insured certificates for building management are free on request.

How fast can you start?

Small repairs typically start within 1–2 weeks. Kitchens, libraries, and decks are usually booked 3–6 weeks out, depending on the season. Commercial after-hours work can often start sooner because nights and weekends stay open — tell us your deadline and we'll build the schedule backwards from it.

Do you provide fixed pricing?

Always. After a site visit and measurements you receive a line-item fixed quote valid for 30 days — not an estimate with an asterisk. If we overlooked something in our own takeoff, that cost stays with us. The only time the price changes is if you change the scope, and even then you approve the delta in writing first.

Can we live at home during the work?

In most cases, yes. We phase flooring and kitchen jobs room by room, set up sealed dust barriers with HEPA-filtered negative air, and deep-clean at the end of every day. For full-gut kitchens we set up a temporary kitchenette and confirm the plan with you before demolition day.

What warranty do you offer?

A written 5-year craftsmanship warranty covering joinery, installation, and finishes under normal use — far beyond the industry-standard one year. If a door drifts, a joint opens, or a finish fails prematurely, we come back and make it right. Manufacturer warranties on hardware and appliances apply on top.
